Careers and University Information
Through studying the IB Diploma Programme the students at Sri KDU International School (SKISS) are given the best possible opportunity to attend some of the most prestigious universities in the world. We are proud to offer detailed and dedicated guidance to all our students who make a variety of applications to institutions in the United Kingdom, North America and Australia.
Guidance and Support
Our expert team of guidance counsellors enable the students to make the choices that are right for them. In conjunction with specialist online search tools, we examine the variety of skills, interests and academic abilities of each individual. From this point, we then work with the student to find the correct course and location for their further study. We are experts in the use of the UCAS system for the United Kingdom and the Common Application system for the USA giving the students the best possible chance of succeeding with their applications.
Various speakers are invited into the school to support the students’ decision making. In 2018 we enjoyed listening to a Liberal Arts graduate from Yale in the USA, a graduate from the University of Bristol in the UK, and an applications officer from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. The expertise of these speakers and advisors has really supported the students in their applications and decision making.
We also like to provide the opportunity for the students to practice their interview skills and we have teachers who are vastly experienced in Oxbridge interview techniques, giving the students the best possible chance of attending these prestigious institutions. The students are given expert guidance on writing personal statements and our references are of the highest standard, with our teachers receiving detailed training on how to create a reference for the best universities in the world.
For those that feel they need extra support, we are also fostering and developing relationships with UKEC (United Kingdom Education Centre), a company that provides additional guidance and support for our students.
Variety of Study Choices
When they have completed their IB Diploma they have a large number of options available to them. The students have chosen to study a large number of diverse courses from all of the academic groups in the IB Diploma Programme. Engineering is a popular study choice and the Humanities feature heavily. This spread alone shows that excellent teaching and learning is taking place across the curriculum here at Sri KDU International School.
We pride ourselves in finding the right destination for each individual student. We enable them to make informed decisions and the school provides a powerful internet search tool that enables them to filter their choices and ideas. The years 2019 and 2020 have seen unprecedented success in University placements for our alumni. In 2019 Lee Yong (51 Points with an extra subject) was accepted to read Chemistry at Imperial College London and Han Kai Ding Max (45 Points) was enrolled into Yale University in Singapore. From the 2020 alumni there were a large number of UK placements. Notably Kelly Pua (41 Points) was accepted to study Law at the London School of Economics where she will be following in the footsteps of Genevieve Ooi from the class of 2019 (44 Points) who is also studying Law. Amongst these great successes we have also had students move on to study at the University of British Columbia in Canada. Tan Yen Zhen who is studying Chemistry and Melissa Huijin Goon who is studying Biomedical Sciences. Each year students are continuing to be accepted into courses in Australia, Canada, The United Kingdom and the United States and we are happy to help support the students in every way with their applications.
We are very proud of all our alumni and keep in contact with them to inspire the next generation of Sri KDU International School graduates.
