Our Aims
The main aim of our English Department is to inspire, engage and create a lifelong passion for learning. Our curriculum supports our school’s mission statement of creating “Tomorrow’s Leaders, Here and Now” and we have developed a programme of study across all Key Stages that encourages our learners to be passionate readers and creative thinkers. We aim to provide a powerful curriculum that ‘Builds Learning Power’ and excites our students’ perceptions of the global world, of which they will be leaders.
As an international school, we draw upon the wealth of culture and diversity of our staff and students, and utilise this in our schemes of work which provide challenge, curiosity but above all, a love of learning. We provide a curriculum that is accessible and stimulating to all students, and provide support for all students as they strive to achieve their potential.
Our Curriculum
In Years 7-9, Key Stage 3 students explore the world of language and literature through a range of units based on prose, poetry, creative writing, non-fiction, drama and Shakespeare. Following the National Curriculum of England, we ensure our students build the necessary skills across reading, writing and speaking and listening. Students in Years 10 and 11 follow the Cambridge IGCSE English Language and Literature syllabus. We believe that the IGCSE courses that we provide, develop our students with essential lifelong skills, including creative thinking and problem-solving. At Key Stage 5 we deliver the IB Language and Literature Programme.
